HAPPY NEW YEAR !

January 02, 2018

Happy 2018!

Hoping everyone had a great holiday season and wishing y'all good things for this New Year !

I've been busy applying to Canadian/Ontario folk festivals in recent weeks, and realized I needed to get a few of the songs from the new album, Follow that Fire, up online.  In December, I recorded a few VIDEOS of the songs solo acoustic and decided to share them on YOUTUBE.

Here are a few links to those tunes:

Also, I thought I'd include a few links to some great black and white videos from the previous album, Songs of Rain, Snow & Remembering - filmed by the awesome Nathaniel Deshpande from Latent Image Design.

And, what the heck, one for for good measure. This is RUNNING filmed LIVE as the Casbah in Hamilton a few years back.

Plans are in the works for a number of shows in 2018 - Fri. Feb. 9, I'll be performing with my trio at the KWBoathouse in Kitchener with the talented Andrea Nixon from Edmonton! Sun. April. 8, I will also play with the trio at one of KW's funkiest venues, The Jane Bond, with my good pay Jesse Parent, who is also bringing his trio! Double, triple the fun :)

2018 will also see the release of an album of my originals with my side project band Shipwreck Radios. The album is now being mastered and a CD release date is in the works - stay tuned !
May will also see another tour up through Campbellford, Ottawa and Montreal. Dates are being finalized and will appear on the DATES page as soon as they are confirmed.

Until then, stay warm!

Winter Update!

December 07, 2017

Well hello everyone, it's been a while since my last post.  After a super busy spring, summer and fall, I decided to take a bit of a breather and catch up on a few things in the late fall/early winter.
I'm thrilled that the new album Follow That Fire continues to get good press, and it reached the Top Ten on the Earshot charts across Canada on various radio stations from coast to coast and on the national charts as well !
In the meantime, I've finished a recording with my side project band Shipwreck Radios and we had a great time playing the Busted Flat Records 15th Anniversary show in late November. The project began some 4 years ago as a way for me to express my love of '90s rock music. No acoustic guitars on this album - strictly electric with distortion and other 'sounds' ! The band lineup includes three talented local fellas plus myself - Ryan Allen (lead guitar), Scott Fitzpatric (bass) and Jonny Sauder (drums).  The 9-song album is being mastered as we speak - look for a CD release date in early 2018!

From now until early 2018, I will be performing mostly locally around the KW, Cambridge and Guelph area. Please check the DATES page for more details.
And I am looking forward to returning to perform at the Loose Grape wine bar in Cambridge on NYE again this year !
If you are interested in attending the dinner and show (I will be playing 9pm - 1 am), please contact the venue for more information (519) 219-5656.

Happy Holidays and Best Wishes for the New Year !

FOLLOW THAT FIRE CD RELEASE SHOW!

July 31, 2017

So I've gone and done it again !
Album number nine will get the proper release treatment with a full band show at KWBoathouse in Kitchener on Fri. Sept. 15 !
The new album, Follow that Fire, was recorded from February to May 2017 at The Hangar Studio in Toronto with acclaimed producer Michael Timmins at the helm. You might recognize his name as the longtime guitarist and writer for the Cowboy Junkies - and the man behind the brilliant sound of their albums !
Mike used his own crack session guys for the album - fantastic players indeed.

Here in Kitchener, we also have a wealth of talented musicians, some of who will take a night off from the many bands they play in and join me for a special album launch show at the Boathouse in Victoria Park. These talented fellas include: Jason Carraro on lead guitar, Steve Wood on pedal steel, Arun Pal on keys, Scott Fitzpatrick on bass and last but not least, Jonny Sauder holding down the beat !

Kicking off the night, will be talented songstress Lynne Hanson from Ottawa, Ontario. If you're not familiar with her material, please do check it out here:  www.lynnehanson.com - you will not be disappointed !

Tickets for the release show are $12 in advance or $15 at the door the night of the show.  Advance tickets are available at Encore Records in downtown Kitchener (across from the Farmer's Market) or Guitar Corner, located on Victoria and Park streets.

Anyone from out of town looking to get yer hands on some advance tickets can email Mark here:  bustedflatrecords@gmail.com.

I'm hitting the road this Thursday - giving the album a tour through Western Canada - then coming home for a hometown release show !
If you wanna send your cousins or uncles or grandma's out in the Prairies or in BC out to catch the show, please check the DATES page for all the Western Tour stops.

Hope to see ya either out on the road or at the Boathouse in September !

'Til then - stay cool and I'll see ya soon !

HAPPY NEW YEAR !

January 21, 2017

Hi folks,

Been a while since my last update. . .and there's lots to report !

I'm excited to say that I will be working with the multi-talented Michael Timmins from the Cowboy Junkies on my new 2017 acoustic album ! Michael is a fantastic producer (check out the band's Nomad Series, just one of numerous projects he's produced) and has a wide sonic palate - I look forward to his fresh ideas and experimentation in the studio with my new songs ! His brother Peter and Josh Finlayson of The Skydiggers will also be in the studio adding percussion and bass to the project. I'm aiming for a late-summer, early fall release with a tour to follow. Details to come !

And my side project, Shipwreck Radios is gearing up to go into the studio this spring to record 9 original songs that stylistically harken back to the '90s sound of artists such as PJ Harvey, Mazzy Star, Jesus & Mary Chain. I guess like one my favourite songwriters, Neil Young, I have a soft, acoustic side and a more let's-belt-it-out- to-the-rooftops side which this project entails :)  With Ryan Allen on lead guitar and 'sounds', Scott Fitzpatrick on bass and Jonny Sauder on drums, I've gathered some of KW's best veteran musicians ! It's a joy to play with them, and to finally make use of the beautiful custom-made electric guitar that i've been playing on for some time now. More to come on this album soon !

On another topic, one of the reason's I've been putting this news post off for so long is that last June I lost one of my longtime mentors in the KW music scene - Paul MacLeod.  It's been a time of greiving that I expect will last for some time. I remember the first time I saw him play in the late '90s at the Walper Hotel pub in the back room where he had a standing Thursday night gig. Then when I moved to Guelph for a time, I could catch him Monday nights at Jimmy Jazz.  I was in awe of his playing, singing and front-man charisma and tried to just watch and learn, as I was just starting out playing music.  The dexterity, the crazy jazz chords, the fantastic range of his voice - along with his sharp wit made for a great show.  Paul was never boring.  He told me a long time ago that people never practice enough - and I took that to heart. To this day, I still rehearse for every show I do.  I booked Paul and I tours of Eastern and Western Canada - there are some great photos on his Facebook Memorial Page - and will always cherish the laughs and hilarious stories and the pure musicianship of the man. Paul - you inspired many and you are missed by many. RIP my friend.

Time to sign off now. Check out the Dates section for upcoming shows in your area and stay tuned for more details on the recording projects and the 2017 tour.
Cheers friends !

Lynn
