CD Release Show !
CD RELEASE SHOW SEPT. 4 @ THE BOATHOUSE!
Hello everyone !
Hope the summer has been treating you well! It's been a busy summer for me - just last month I completed my 8th studio album ! Recorded with Norman Blake at Spaghetti Studios here in Kitchener, I had a lot of help from some talented local (and kind of local) friends.
The album features Arun Pal on piano, organ, percussion; Joe Dunn, of King Roller and Sexdwarf, on electric and slide guitars; Nick Storring on cello, Scott Fitzpatrick on upright bass, Chris Boyne on backing vox and harmonium, and Brent Hagerman and his funky, dubby guitar arrangement on a tune as well :)
I'm very lucky to announce that all of these people - and my drummer Andy Miler - will be joining me for a CD release show at The KW Boathouse in Kitchener's Victoria Park. The show admission is $10 or $15 if you'd like to pick up a copy of the CD and catch the show.
The rock album I'm also working on is progressing - we're getting close to going into the studio to get that project rolling very soon ! Stay tuned for more details.
Next weekend, I'll be performing at a couple of my favourite Ontario spots - The Stinking Rose in Campbellford (Sat. Aug. 22) and The Acoustic Grill in Picton on Sun. Aug. 23 with my talented labelmate Duane Rutter.
Alright, hope to see you on the road or in September !
Spring is here !
Wow - what a long, cold, snowy winter that was eh ?
Despite the weather, it was a busy winter with some benefit shows (Sick Kids, Voices Carry) , trips to play in Owen Sound, Ottawa and then putting in some time locally around K-W, Guelph, Brantford . . .etc.
February was a tough month - and the music community here is still reeling from the untimely death of our good friend Steve Toms - fantastic bass player, having played in many local bands over the years and most recently with Busted Flat blues-rockers Daddy Long Legs. I knew Steve for 15 years and he was always passionate about music, playing live and seeing bands. We're really, really going to miss his mischievous, fun-loving personality and his talent. RIP my dear friend. I hope you're hanging out somewhere with Matt Osborne - another great local talent taken from us way too soon.
In recent weeks, I've been working on two separate projects: a new album of acoustic material with Teenage Fanclub's Norman Blake; and a more electric band album with the help of my longtime drummer Andy Miller and local talents Scott Fitzpatrick and Ryan Allen. Stay tuned for more details.
The spring into summer will be busy as well, with shows in Hamilton, Guelph, another visit to the National Capital Region, Canadian Music Week and more. Check out the 'Dates' page for all the specifics.
The talented Mr. Duane Rutter just helped me complete videos for 4 new acoustic songs, with the help of Guelph's Latent Image Design - and as the editing is being finished, some good reviews have been coming in from Europe for The Acoustic Sessions album. Skip over to the Press page and have a look see.
That's about all the updates for now.
Go out and take in some local shows - support local musicians and venues at the same time - and don't forget your local record store ! Record Store Day is coming up quick on April 18 ! Head down to Encore Records across from the Kitchener Market and pick up some limited edition vinyl ! http://www.encorerecords.ca
Bye for now . . . . .
Happy December !
Well we still have a few weeks to go before we finish up with 2014 - but what a busy year !
The Acoustic Sessions tour from Ontario, out through the Prairies and all the way to Vancouver Island and back was long but great ! I decided to drive it myself this year - and other than a few harrowing experiences in the BC mountains - I had a great trip. I played a lot of music for a lot of new and familiar faces and saw the many majestic landscape changes across this great, big country of ours. I will be planning another Western Canada tour in the New Year as well as heading East at some point.
As far as new material goes, I have a big batch of songs that have been ready for recording for a while now, and I also wrote a few new ones on my trip. I think my plan is to split the songs into another stripped down acoustic album and a louder, rowdier band album. I will keep you posted as work gets going on those projects.
In the new year, I'm looking forward to performing at Voices Carry - a benefit for victims of violence and sexual assault (see Dates for more details) and I'm also looking forward to performing at the newly renovated Boathouse in Kitchener. In early February, I will be performing in Owen Sound at Mossy Gatherings with the talented Scott Fitzpatrick.
More 2015 shows and events are in the works - so please check back soon for updates !
Happy holidays everyone !
